What the instructions say.
- I-130Petition for a relative
"If you are a lawful permanent resident, you must file your petition with a copy of the front and back of your Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551)."1
- I-751Removing conditions
"Submit copies of both front and back sides of the card."2
- I-90Replacing a lost card
"Submit a copy of your Permanent Resident Card, if you have one", or a government-issued ID.3

Keep the card. Send a legible copy.
"You should submit legible photocopies of requested documents unless the Instructions specifically instruct you to submit an original document."1

For a job
Form I-9 is different.
You present the card itself, a List A document.4 The employer may copy it, only for the I-9.6
A driver's license is List B.
